Chinese domestic steel section prices have declined during the past week.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have also softened during the past week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 5,220/mt ($812/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 5,240/mt ($815/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 5,320/mt ($827/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Overall trading activity in the domestic steel section market has been slack due to the previous relatively large increases, which caused the demand side to mostly wait and see. Supply volumes have increased slightly but most regions are still suffering from restrictions on production. Traders are mostly willing to offer certain discounts in order to close more deals and keep their inventories at low levels. As for the week ahead, it is believed that domestic steel section prices may rebound slightly.
