Brazil structural profiles prices increased by 7.8 percent in the month of October, sources told SteelOrbis, and although it was the second major adjustment this year, prices are expected to remain stable for the remainder of 2014.

Earlier this month, Brazilian distributors were complaining about the competition with local mills to sell structural profiles. At that time, a distributor said wide flange beam margins were low, and mills benefit from the possibility of selling the product at smaller volumes.

“We receive a monthly production of 800-1,000 mt, but a final consumer goes to the mill and buys directly from it 10 mt of wide flange beams,” a source explained at that time.

With the nearly 8 percent price increase, FOB prices for the product are now ranging from BRL 2,630 to BRL 2,641 ($1,065-$1,069/mt), sources said.

The price does not include ICMS, PIS and Cofins taxes.
