Longs producers in Algeria have announced fresh offers for the domestic market, partly aiming to offset the currency fluctuations seen over the past month. Demand remains moderate with no significant improvement expected since the lockdown on the country’s project activity is still in place. Mills are offering products from stocks and for May production.
Tosyali Algerie, one of the key producers in the country, has increased its rebar and wire rod prices by DZD 1,000/mt over the past month to DZD 66,250/mt and DZD 74,250/mt, both on ex-works basis. In US dollars, suppliers’ offers have inched down by $4-5/mt due to currency fluctuations to $475/mt ex-works and $487/mt ex-works, respectively.
Algerian Qatari Steel, the second largest producer in the country, is nowadays offering rebar at $467/mt (DZD 65,150/mt) ex-works, while its wire rod is available at $492/mt (DZD 75,000/mt) ex-works, SteelOrbis has learned.
Prices on US dollar basis exclude nine percent and 19 percent VAT for rebar and wire rod, respectively.
