As with last week, spot market prices for US import HDG and Galvalume coil have remained stable. Sources said that while offshore mills "got some decent bookings from China," adding that lead times have pushed out, mills' have not been successful in selling steel at higher price points.
In terms of current import volumes, census data from the US Department of Commerce indicates that a total of 207,051mt of HDG coil was shipped to US ports in June. If confirmed, this would make June the second most volumous month for imports in the past year. The most signifcant offshore source of imported coated steel last month was Brazil, at 55,697mt. Taiwan comes in at a distant second, with 21,501mt shipped to US ports. US DOC license data also reflects that June tonnages have risen significantly from May, when 124,305mt of HDG sheets and strip was shipped to the US from global sources.
