Traders have confirmed that offer prices for US import HDG and Galvalume coil are mostly stable, week-over-week, although some sources polled believe that prices could soften further in the upcoming weeks. Also notable is census data from the US Department of Commerce, which shows that during the month of August, the US imported 271,936 mt of hot dipped galvalnized sheet and strip from global sources; import tonnages from August were the highest they’ve been since the start of the pandemic. While DOC license data indicates that import tons may have dropped by roughly 50,000 mt, month-over-month, to 221,685 mt in September, this is just the third time since March 2020 that import tons have reached that threshold.
