Spot market prices for US import HDG and Galvalume coil continue to trend mostly stable, although sources close to SteelOrbis have noted that offshore mills are “definitely trying to get prices up.”
“China bought everything that wasn’t nailed to the floor, which has helped push lead time out,” a source said. “No one is surprised that offshore mills are trying to get prices up, but since there’s still a lot of global uncertainty in terms of how the coronavirus will impact long-term demand, we’re not sure how successful mills will be in getting their customers to accept higher prices. We think that some firming will take place, but it’s hard to say how much of an increase buyers will be able to stomach.”
