Last week, SteelOrbis reported that US import Galvalume prices had risen week-over-week. Today, however, market prices seem to have stabilized. Overall pricing for US import HDG and Galvalume prices have remained sideways in the past seven days, and while current order activity has been described as steady, it’s speculated that activity could pick up in the upcoming weeks, if US flat rolled steel prices continue to shift upward.
As far as current import statistics, preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce suggests that for the month of October, the US imported 201,132 mt of hot dipped galvanized sheet and strip from global sources. In contrast, October 2018 census data shows that the US imported 236,055 mt of hot dipped galvanized sheet and strip from global sources.
DOC data further indicates the most significant offshore sources for HDG sheet and strip for October 2019 were Brazil, at 24,939 mt and Korea, at 20,826 mt.
