Sources close to SteelOrbis have confirmed that spot market prices for US import 0.012" G30 and Galvalume coil are “on par” with domestic offers.
“Most of the traditional 0.012" players are tapped out of the market,” a source said. “The only country that’s close to being competitive right now is Mexico, who is offering at $56-$57 cwt. ($1,235-$1,257/mt or $1,120-$1,140/nt), FOB Texas, which is basically the same price that’s being offered by [the domestic mills.]”
A similar situation is being seen within the 0.019x41.5625 Gr80/AZ55 Galvalume market.
Offers from non-Section 232 tariff-paying countries, such as Korea and Mexico, are being heard at $56-$58 cwt. ($1,235-$1,279/mt or $1,120-$1,160/nt), DDP loaded truck in US Gulf coast ports, and FOB Texas, respectively. Domestic offers for this same product are also trending within that same range.
“Unless it’s coming from Mexico, a lot of people aren’t interested in buying imports based on the lead times,” another source said. “It makes no sense to buy an offshore product that won’t get here for several months, when you can buy it from a domestic mill for the same price and get it in several weeks.”
