After rapidly switching from a price increase to a decrease a week ago, import hot dipped galvanized (HDG) and Galvalume offer prices in the US are unchanged this week. Trader sources tell SteelOrbis that while there is still a steady trickle of orders for some niche products, inquiries on commodity grade material abundant at US mills--and priced at similar levels--are extremely quiet. Taiwanese offers for April production have now been withdrawn, while Indian and Chinese mills are still looking for orders from the US.
Mexico, which usually mirrors US domestic spot price movements rapidly, has not made any major adjustments to its offer prices to the US, at least not officially. According to industry insiders, Mexican Galvalume 0.019x41.5625 Gr80/AZ55 offer prices to the US in the range of $49.00-$50.00 cwt. ($1,080-$1,102/mt or $980-$1,000/nt) DDP loaded truck delivered into Houston can be easily negotiated $0.50-$1.50 cwt. ($11-$33/mt or $10-$30/nt) lower for a decent-sized offer.
