As predicted, import hot dipped galvanized (HDG) and Galvalume offer prices to the US are unchanged in the last week, although trader sources indicate there is some room for negotiation. Inquiries into import prices from US buyers have been plentiful, but most of the inquiries have been for comparison purposes only, according to one trader in the south. With the US market's long term trend uncertain, imports are a risk most US buyers still aren't willing to take.
There has been a regular flow of smaller orders for HDG 0.012"x40.875" G30 from India, China and Mexico, as offer prices in the range of $45.00-$47.00 cwt. ($992-$1,036/mt or $900-$940/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports, can be negotiated about $0.50 cwt. ($11/mt or $10/nt) lower, but not much more. But until there is a major price movement in US domestic prices or in India's, China's, or Mexico's domestic markets, import prices in the US will likely continue on their weeks-long neutral trend.
