US import HDG activity hindered by domestic uncertainty

Activity and pricing within the US import HDG and Galvalume coil markets has remained steady week-over-week; short US lead times, downtrending domestic prices and a forecast dip in US scrap prices during the May buy cycle have many buyers reluctant to book offshore.

Trader sources continue to note that the closeness in proximity to domestic and offshore offer prices is contributing to that reluctance.

Market players say they are also keeping close tabs on the still-pending trade agreement between the US, Mexico and Canada, as it's largely speculated that the 25% Section 232 tarrif on steel imports will be replaced by quotas.
