US domestic HDG prices are still trending high, sources note, adding that “out of control” pricing seems to be slowing down. “Prices are still high, but we’re hearing that some of the out-of-control price quotes have been dialed back,” a source said. “Prices haven’t come down, but the range seems to have narrowed on the top end.”
Lead times, which had previously been heard at 8-9 weeks, are now trending at 7-9 weeks.
“Lead times have softened oh-so-slightly, and it seems like scrap prices are going to come down this month. So a lot of us are keeping our eyes on that,” another source added. “I don’t know if we’ll see prices come down substantially anytime soon, because spot tons are still hard to come by, but the weeks long pricing up trend seems to have finally leveled off.”
