Demand within the US domestic cold rolled coil market is “better than expected” according to sources, which has led to an approximate $0.50 cwt. ($11/mt or $10/nt) price firming on the low end of last week’s range. Today, the most commonly reported spot price transaction range has inched up to $38.00-$39.00 cwt. ($837-$860/mt or $760-$780/nt) ex-Midwest mill.
In terms of imports, Chinese mills continue to offer CRC to the West coast, and it looks as if at least one Indian mill has signed on as the importer of record in hopes of garnering additional orders. But whether this will entice traders, who have become increasingly wary of booking tons from either country due to the “trade case fear factor” has yet to be seen.
