US CRC prices continue to be bolstered by Section 232 uncertainty

US domestic cold rolled coil (CRC) prices have continued to firm in the past week, with spot market prices increasing $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt) on the top end since our last report a week ago.

Today the transaction range is now being heard at $44-$46 cwt. ($970-$1014/mt or $880-$920/nt), ex-mill, although some buyers are reporting that mills are quoting up to $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt) lower depending on the size of the order.

It’s also believed that mills may soon announce yet another price increase announcement, due to increased US domestic scrap prices, which are due to settle this week.

Import offers, sources say, have fallen completely silent due to the uncertainty surrounding Trump’s decision on Section 232 tariffs.
