Domestic and export demand for Turkey’s coated steel has remained low, resulting in another sizeable decline in prices over the past week. Moreover, the situation in the feedstock segment remains largely negative, specifically on the import side. As a result, the official base offers for hot dip galvanized (HDG) locally have lost $15/mt to $560-580/mt ex-works. However, buyers say that for firm orders $540-560/mt ex-works base is achievable. In addition to the low end-user consumption, the situation in Syria has affected sentiment. Many market players comment that demand in the Turkish coated steel market is currently in the worst shape since 2008. As a result, there is little hope for an improvement in the short run. In the export segment, HDG base prices have again decreased, by $15/mt, with most offers reported at $555-575/mt FOB for end of November-December shipments. Negotiations continue with EU and US buyers; however, most bids are said to be around $30/mt below the official offer prices, SteelOrbis has learned.
Turkish mills’ price offers for coated products for their domestic and export markets, for November production, are presented in the following table.
