Sluggish Chinese PPGI market receives boost from Baosteel’s new prices

During the week ending September 13, pre-painted galvanized iron (PPGI) prices have risen slightly in the Chinese domestic market. Average PPGI prices in the Chinese market can be viewed in the SteelOrbis price reports section.

Although the decline in purchasing activity in the local PPGI market has negatively impacted the confidence of domestic traders, the upward adjustments by Baosteel in its prices for its October deliveries are expected to provide some support for the market. During the week in question, some other PPGI producers have also moved to raise their offers, though they have not been very successful in attracting orders. Downstream buyers do not intend to accept the  price increases, while traders are not inclined to reduce their prices. It is expected that in the coming period domestic PPGI prices in China will just indicate slight fluctuations.
