During the week ending August 6, Chinese domestic hot dip galvanized (HDG) prices have moved on a downward trend, though with smaller decreases compared to the previous week, while overall transaction activity in the market has shown a small improvement but still remains at low levels. Average HDG prices in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, some domestic finished steel prices have rebounded due to the influence of imminent environmental protection measures with the approach of national holidays at the start of September and at the beginning of October. However, domestic HDG prices have not halted their declining trend, mainly due to the lack of a significant improvement in demand from downstream users. Market participants are expected to continue to maintain a wait-and-see stance, waiting for an improvement in demand in the longer term. It is thought that HDG prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely edge up slightly amid fluctuations in the coming week, against the backdrop of higher hot rolled coil (HRC) prices.
