The Brazilian producers remain negotiating slab exports at $530/mt, FOB conditions for the basic commercial grades.

Such price is the same over the last two weeks, remaining in the range of $530/mt to 540/mt since August 5.

In December, Brazil exported 454,000 mt of slabs compared to 229,300 mt in November, however, none of the slab imports have cleared customs in Brazilian ports in the past two months.

The absence of imports could reflect postponements of customs clearing processes due to the recent devaluation of the BRL in relation to the USD, as importers could be waiting for a more favorable exchange rate.

In December, ArcelorMittal Tubarão exported 149,700 mt of slabs at $551/mt to the US, 49,700 mt at $485/mt to Mexico and 24,100 mt at $540/mt to the UK, while Gerdau exported 38,700 mt at $521/mt to the US and Ternium exported 191,800 mt at $606/mt also to the US, all FOB conditions, price deals probably closed in October 2024.
