Reference export price for Brazilian slabs hits one-year high

Brazilian slab exports now have a reference price of $540/mt FOB, the highest since January 2025.

This compares to $515/mt last week, maintaining an uptrend since $455/mt in October 2025.

According to sources, most of the increase is now due to the USD losing value against the BRL, with a drop of around 5 percent so far in 2026.

Expectations among exporters are for stability or small increases in the slab price in the weeks ahead.

After declining to 410,900 mt in January 2026 from 762,400 mt in December 2025 due to the absence of exports to the US, Brazilian exporters anticipate an increase in volume for February. This optimism is supported by the expected resumption of exports to the US, as American producers rely on Brazilian slabs to sustain their rolling operations.
