Prices have remained unchanged and demand has failed to recover in the local Turkish coated steel market. Buyers have been putting pressure on prices but producers have rejected discount requests due to increasing scrap prices. In addition, the demand from export destinations has been sufficient, once again preventing prices from dropping. "We have low demand from the local market but HRC producers have only limited production volumes for December. Also, demand from export destinations is satisfactory. We cannot give discounts in these circumstances," a producer told SteelOrbis.
"We can understand that buyers want to be very careful mainly because of the Turkish lira-US dollar exchange rate and the Covid-19 outbreak. But in the current circumstances, we must also think about our raw material replacement costs and options. Any discounts are not possible for us at the moment," another re-roller stated.
In the export market, prices have not changed over the past week, while demand has remained moderate and offer levels are considered workable. "$670-680/mt FOB levels are acceptable for European buyers and demand is good from the EU. European buyers are already seeking to buy for the new year despite the increasing infection numbers in the EU. That creates a really positive outlook for the coated steel exports," an exporter told SteelOrbis.
