Prices have increased by $10-20/mt for coated steel prices in Turkey over the past week, but the upward move made by re-rollers has been followed by a decline in demand. Buyers are hesitating whether to accept the new levels because of the depreciation of the Turkish lira and the uncertainties in the economy. "After the strong demand and problems in supply, prices have reached $730-750/mt ex-works in the market for HDG. Producers are now offering for December-January production, but we do not want to order at higher prices, because we cannot see support from raw material prices and stock are not low in the market anymore," a buyer told SteelOrbis.
On the other hand, producers do not want to give big discounts due to the sufficient demand coming from export markets. "We have sufficient demand from export markets and most producers have already sold out December production. We are even offering February production to the export markets. In this situation, we cannot cut prices too much, but discounts of up to $10/mt are mostly possible for real buyers at the moment," a producer told SteelOrbis.
