Against a backdrop of weak demand in the Vietnamese flat steel market, upward movements of import prices have started to be reflected in domestic quotations. Even though domestic hot rolled coil (HRC) and cold rolled coil (CRC) prices have remained unchanged since last week, the price of rerolling quality HRC of 2 mm thickness has moved up by $15-20/mt as compared to last week.

HRC prices in the Vietnamese domestic market are still at $560-565/mt ex-warehouse, while CRC prices stand at $680-685/mt ex-works. Meanwhile, rerolling quality HRC of 2 mm thickness is now being quoted at $585-595/mt ex-warehouse.

On the import side, Chinese HRC offers to Vietnam are now at $555/mt CFR, indicating an increase of $10/mt as compared to last week, though some deals have been concluded at $543-545/mt CFR for materials produced by Chinese mill Shagang. In the meantime, offers for rerolling quality HRC of 2 mm thickness from China have increased by $15-25/mt since last week to $565-575/mt CFR, while offers from Japan have moved up by $20/mt and Taiwanese offers have indicated an increase of $20/mt over the same period, with the offers in question now standing at $590/mt CFR and at $580/mt CFR respectively.
