Prices for Mexican domestic plate dropped US$10/mt in the last two weeks to settle at US$807/mt-ex-mill.
However, sources are optimistic about demand for plate in the market, especially from emerging sources such as wind turbines. Nuevo Leon, for instance, is a pioneer in the northern country, developing the first wind farm in the region with an investment of US$51 million. It has the highest turbines installed in Mexico at 135 meters each, with 22 megawatts of capacity.
