During the week ending January 31, average prices in the Chinese domestic hot dip galvanized (HDG) market have edged up slightly, while transaction activity in the market has been at low levels. Average HDG prices in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, import iron ore prices have risen significantly due to the dam collapse in Brazil, providing support for HDG offer prices. However, demand for HDG has been slacker due to the approach of the Chinese New Year holiday (February 2-10). It is expected that HDG prices in the Chinese domestic market will move sideways in the coming week.
