During the week ending October 11, average prices in the Chinese domestic hot dip galvanized (HDG) market have moved on a decreasing trend, while transaction activity in the market has been at low levels. Average HDG prices in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, HDG inventories in China have risen slightly, exerting a negative impact on domestic HDG prices. Meanwhile, HDG sales prices in the spot market are at lower levels than ex-works prices from steelmakers, contributing to the cautious mood in the HDG market. Since October is regarded as another peak month for business, demand from downstream users will likely improve in the coming period. It is expected that HDG prices in the Chinese domestic market will move up slightly in the week ahead.
