During the week ending August 16, average prices in the Chinese domestic hot dip galvanized (HDG) market have moved down slightly, while transaction activity in the market has been at low levels. Average HDG prices in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, hot rolled coil (HRC) futures prices have moved down in recent three trading days, weakening the support to HDG market. Meanwhile, the demand has been slack, resulting in low transaction activities. At the same, the supply limit for electricity and natural gas in northern China has negatively affected the production of HDG mills, which provided certain support to HDG prices. It is expected that HDG prices in the Chinese domestic market will move sideways in the coming week.
