Steel plate prices in Turkey have once again dropped significantly over the past two weeks. Aiming to attract buyers while facing quite a number of import offers at competitive levels, suppliers have mainly decided to provide additional discounts.
The import segment of steel plate in Turkey remains rather crowded, with suppliers competing strongly with each other in order to attract buyers. As a result, the Romanian supplier has decreased its offer by $50-60/mt to $890-900/mt CFR for early January shipments. The Bulgarian seller is offering at $920/mt CFR, for the same shipment term, down $30/mt since mid-November. Ex-Macedonia offers are at €880-900/mt CFR, down by around €20-30/mt over two weeks. Asian suppliers are also present in the market with offers. South Korea has decreased its offer level by another $20-30/mt to $770-780/mt CFR for March deliveries, SteelOrbis has learned. China has dropped its price by only $10/mt to $750/mt CFR, but there is not much interest seen in offers due to risks of non-delivery, SteelOrbis has learned.
In the domestic market, the local producer Erdemir is now offering at $920-950/mt ex-works depending on the steel grade, down $40-50/mt over the past two weeks. However, buyers believe a $900/mt ex-works base level is also achievable in the case of large orders.
