According to sources, Turkey’s demand for steel plate has remained rather quiet, particularly in the import segment. The offers coming from Europe are rather high, while those from Asia are considered risky amid increased freight rates and the situation in the MENA region.
Import offers for steel plate from China have been reported at around $600-610/mt CFR for the basic shipbuilding grades, up by around $10/mt over the past fortnight. In addition, thinner plate of SS400 steel grade has been on offer at $580-590/mt CFR. Plate offers from South Korea have settled at $815-825/mt CFR for July shipments of S45C material, up from around $780-790/mt CFR offered for the same material two weeks back. The cargoes are for July shipments. The Bulgarian supplier is currently offering at $920-930/mt CFR base for June-July shipments.
In the domestic market, according to sources, local producer Erdemir is offering at $750-760/mt ex-works for July deliveries, up from $720-730/mt ex-works, sources report. In the meantime, the local retail prices for S355JR material are mainly at $820-830/mt ex-warehouse in Gebze, up $10/mt on the lower end of the range over the mentioned period.
