Business activity in Turkey’s steel plate market has remained moderate, but the volume of trade is still not satisfactory for the suppliers, especially the foreign ones. As a result, some of them, and also the sole domestic producer in Turkey, have chosen to further drop their plate prices in order to spur some sales.
In the domestic market, Turkish steel plate prices from Erdemir have been set officially at $880-930/mt ex-works base depending on the quality, which is $30/mt down from the lower end of the range over the week. In the retail segment, the average base plate price is at $1,000-1,050/mt ex-warehouse.
Import offers from some suppliers have decreased over the week. Bulgaria is at $970/mt CFR for July shipments, $30/mt down from the previous offers. Ex-Romania plate offers have been reported at around $950/mt CFR, $10/mt down over the week. At the same time South Korea is officially at $820-830/mt CFR, but discounts down to $800/mt CFR are considered applicable in case of a firm bid for a large order. Macedonian supplier is offering the shipbuilding grade of plate at $950/mt FOB or around $970-975/mt delivered to Turkey, SteelOrbis has learned.
