Despite the uptrend seen in domestic mills’ flat steel offer prices in Turkey, demand in the spot market remains low and has failed to support traders’ positions. Currency fluctuations also impact the market situation and, in addition, stock levels remain high, thus restricting any upward price moves. “We have high stocks and cash flow problems. These two big issues cause pressure and we are not able to reflect the mills’ current increases in our prices easily. Stability is now more important for us than higher prices. When you cannot sell material, price does not mean anything,” a trader told SteelOrbis.
Flat steel spot prices in Turkey have decreased by $10/mt for hot and cold rolled materials. Offer prices for hot rolled pickled and oiled coils have remained stable as the stocks of the mentioned products are at moderate levels. Traders expect they will be able to increase their spot prices if the uptrend on the producers’ side is sustainable.
