Flat steel spot prices in Turkey fail to recover for now

Local flat steel traders in Turkey have so far failed to reflect domestic mills’ higher prices in their own offers due to low demand and rather high stock levels. “It does not make any sense to increase prices when the demand is low and our customers know we have stocks," a trader told SteelOrbis.

On the other hand, traders have already started to receive their orders booked from the mills at higher price levels. Accordingly, price increases are expected in the retail market shortly. " We have to increase our prices … because the average stock cost is rising," another trader said.
