The heavy steel plate market in Iran has been characterized by difference in price trends in the last few weeks, depending on grades and sizes. Prices of St37 grade heavy plate, which is mainly supplied by local mills, have increased in the last few weeks, reflecting the global price trend of the last few months. Meanwhile, the prices of St52 grade heavy plate, which is mostly imported from CIS countries, have trended down due to the high import volume recorded in the last few months, and also due to weak demand. In addition, the prices of A516 grade heavy plate, which is also mainly imported from the CIS, have indicated a small increase in the Iranian market in the last two weeks.
Currently, local mills have priced 10-40 mm St37 grade heavy steel plate at about $745-780/mt ex-works Ahwaz (southwest Iran), up from $730-775/mt about four weeks ago, up from 720-750/mt about 12 weeks ago and marking an increase from $710-740/mt about 14 weeks ago. Kavian Steel and Khouzestan Oxin Steel are the two main domestic suppliers of heavy steel plates in Iran.
On the other hand, Russian and Ukrainian origin 20-50 mm St52 grade heavy steel plates are now priced by local traders at about $915-990/mt ex-stock Tehran, down from $950-1,030/mt about four weeks ago, down from $970-1,020/mt about six weeks ago and decreasing from $990-1,045/mt about 12 weeks ago.
CIS origin 10-50 mm A516 grade heavy steel plate now stands at about $1,030-1,045/mt ex-stock Tehran, up from $1,025-1,035/mt about four weeks ago, up from $1,070-1,080/mt about six weeks ago, and at the same level as 12 weeks ago.
