Domestic coated steel demand in Turkey has remained weak, while prices have not changed over the past week.
Restocking activities have not started yet despite expectations and trade has failed to improve. In addition, the downturn in the hot rolled coil (HRC) segment has exerted pressure on coated steel prices. Turkish re-rollers have mostly managed to stabilize their offers for now, but discounts are still on the table, sources say. “We have already made price decreases in recent weeks and without demand it is meaningless to make further revisions. But we are considering every order and making discounts according to the order tonnage and payment terms,”` a producer told SteelOrbis.
On the export side, discounts are also on the table and there is some demand coming from Spain and Portugal. Market players also expect orders from Italy in the next few weeks due to the easing of Covid-19 restriction measures.
