Brazilian exports of Galvalume declined from 10,900 mt in June to virtually no volume in July, according to the country’s ministry of industry, foreign trade and services, MDIC.
A local exporter told SteelOrbis that exports have indeed declined, but not to a severe extent, adding that a significant part of the reduction refers to shipments scheduled for July that were postponed to August.
The source mentioned that negotiations for the export of Galvalume are currently in a price range of $800/mt to $840/mt, FOB conditions.
Pushed by domestic prices exceeding the equivalent to $1,000/mt, ex-works, full taxes except IPI, Brazil imported in July 26,000 mt of Galvalume from China at $730/mt, FOB conditions.
In Brazil, CSN and ArcelorMittal are licensed by BIEC to produce Galvalume, but local production, added to other aluminum-zinc coated production, is not sufficient to cover local demand when the economy is under normal conditions.
