West-Siberian Steel Works (ZapSib), a subsidiary of the Russian steelmaker and iron ore producer Evraz Group (Evraz), has announced that it has successfully passed the certification of its slabs for shipbuilding by Lloyd's Register EMEA, a British organization that conducts technical supervision in the shipbuilding industry.

Accordingly, the certification process of ZapSib's continuously cast slabs for the production of shipbuilding steel plates took almost all of 2009. The Lloyd's Register EMEA compliance certificate has been awarded for a period of three years.

"The certificate will make our products more attractive, which in turn will allow us to expand our sale market," ZapSib management system department head Sergei Belikov commented.

Cooperation with the shipbuilding industry is for ZapSib a promising area of development. In addition to the company's certification of continuously cast slabs by Lloyd's Register EMEA, a further five types of its products used in shipbuilding (welding materials) are certified by Russian River Register.
