WV Stahl: EU’s proposed safeguard quota adjustments are inadequate

The German Steel Federation (WV Stahl) has stated that it disapproves of the proposals of the European Commission to adjust tariff quotas in the context of the EU safeguard measures on steel imports. WV Stahl president Hans Jurgen Kerkhoff pointed out that these proposals are “inadequate” and are not capable of protecting the steel industry in Germany and Europe from mass steel imports.

Commenting on the regulation proposals, Mr. Kerkhoff said, “Even with regard to the gloomy economic situation, the EU member states would now have to work on an effective solution to avert further damage to steel companies.”

As SteelOrbis previously reported, last week the EU announced adjustments to import quota volumes, reducing the planned increase from five percent to three percent in all product categories.
