Worrying signs for Turkish auto sector with sharp drop in July sales

In July this year, sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in Turkey decreased by 66 percent year on year to 17,927 units, according to the statistics released by the Turkish Automotive Distributors Association (ODD). In the given month, domestic sales of passenger cars in Turkey declined by 63.4 percent year on year to 15,398 units, while sales of light commercial vehicles dropped by 76.4 percent year on year to 2,529 units.

Meanwhile, in the first seven months of the year, domestic sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles saw a decrease of 47.5 percent year on year, amounting to 213,071 units. In this period, domestic sales of passenger cars in the country were down by 46 percent to 171,776 units, while sales of light commercial vehicles fell by 53.2 percent to 41,925 units, both on year-on-year basis.

The ODD estimates that automotive sales in Turkey will be in the range of 340,000-380,000 units for the full year.
