World vehicle sales grew by over 5 percent in 2016

Global vehicle sales totaled 9.05 million units in December, rising 6 percent above December 2015. 

The 2016 total of 93.57 million units is an all-time record that reflects a 5.4 percent vehicle sales growth over 2015 figures. The numbers show growth improvements in every region except South America. The biggest source of growth came from China, which secured 30 percent of the world market and increased sales an estimated 14.4 percent to 28.15 million units for the year.

By region, the regional percentages of the global market are as follows: Asia/Pacific, 50 percent; Europe, 22 percent; North America, 23 percent; South America, 4 percent; and others, 1 percent.
