According to the preliminary data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in the first nine months of this year came to 47.6 million metric tons, increasing by 7.1 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2010.
Meanwhile, in September this year world DRI output totaled 5.2 million metric tons, decreasing 1.9 percent as compared to the previous month and up by 6.6 percent year on year.
The worldsteel data show that India was the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in September 2011. India's DRI output was 2.3 million metric tons in September, decreasing 2.5 percent compared to August levels and up 30.9 percent year on year, followed by Iran and Mexico, with outputs of 820,000 mt and 532,000 mt respectively.
