According to the preliminary data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in the first seven months of this year came to 36.8 million metric tons, increasing by 6.6 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2010.
Meanwhile, in July this year world DRI output totaled 5.64 million metric tons, increasing 4.9 percent as compared to the previous month and up by 14.3 percent year on year.
The worldsteel data show that India was the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in July 2011. India's DRI output was 2.36 million metric tons in July, increasing by 3.3 percent as compared to June levels and up four percent year on year, followed by Iran and Mexico, with outputs of 850,000 mt and 625,000 mt respectively.
