World DRI output up seven percent in January-October

According to the preliminary data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in the first 10 months of this year came to 52.9 million metric tons, increasing by 6.9 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2010.
 
Meanwhile, in October this year world DRI output totaled 5.4 million metric tons, increasing 4.4 percent as compared to the previous month and up by 6.9 percent year on year.
 
The worldsteel data show that India was the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in October 2011. India's DRI output was 2.4 million metric tons in October, increasing 3.5 percent compared to September levels and up 30.8 percent year on year, followed by Iran and Mexico, with outputs of 850,000 mt and 475,000 mt respectively.
