World DRI output up 4.08 percent in January over December

According to the data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in January this year totaled 4.92 million metric tons, increasing by 4.08 percent compared to December 2009 and up by 19.473 percent year on year.

Worldsteel data show that India is the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed, with a DRI output of 1.82 million metric tons in January, with an increase of 7.12 percent year on year, followed by Iran and Venezuela, with outputs of 650,000 mt and 475,000 mt respectively.
