According to the preliminary data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in the first month of 2011 came to 4.82 million metric tons, rising by 2.77 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2010 and dropping 0.05 percent month on month.
The worldsteel data show that India was the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in January, with a DRI output of 1.7 million metric tons, followed by Iran and Mexico, with outputs of 900,000 mt and 455,000 mt respectively.
