Workers at the Chery auto manufacturing plant in the city of Jacarei, in the state of Sao Paulo, plan to strike this Friday, according to media reports.

According to the local metal workers union, the strike is in response to the low wages the Chinese automaker pays to the plant’s employees. Currently, the plant has a 50,000 unit per year production capacity, of which half is being utilized, according to media reports.

The strike will mark the third this year at an auto plant; in January, workers from Volkswagen in the city of Sao Bernardo do Campo, also located in the state of Sao Paulo, stopped work for an 11-day period as a response to a company’s proposal of firing 800 employees. In February, GM workers in the same city halted production for similar reasons.

In both cases, employees only returned to work after reaching an agreement with the respective companies, according to media reports.
