Weirton Steel closes some of its operations temporarily

According to recent news in the market, US mill Weirton Steel has recently revealed the details of its temporary production cut plan. As previously reported by SteelOrbis, due to coke shortage problem Weirton Steel was planning to cut its production through temporary closure of some operations and layoff some of its workers, however the company did not reveal the details of its decision. In line with a recent statement, Weirton Steel is planning to layoff 800 workers and cut the operations of its No.1 blast furnace, No.3 three pickler, No.7 and No.8 tandem mills and galvanizing facilities, temporarily. Weirton Steel's coke shortage problem stems from the reduction in coke shipments of US Steel, which supplies coke to Weirton Steel.
