Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) has announced that it has decided to exempt nine local companies from the safeguard duty imposed on color-coated steel sheet imports into Vietnam.

According to the decision, the local companies in question are required to submit their reports for the exemption from safeguard duties to the Vietnam Competition Authority (VCA) during the first 15 days of the next quarter; otherwise the exemption decision will be invalid.

In May this year, the MOIT introduced import quotas for color-coated steel sheet imports and also calculated a safeguard duty of 19 percent for the countries exceeding the annual quota.

The products in question are color-coated steel sheets of alloy or non-alloy steel, cold-rolled, coated or zinc-coated and pre-painted galvanized steel sheets, currently classified under Harmonized System Code Numbers 7210.7010, 7210.7090, 7212.4010, 7212.4020, 7212.4090, 7225.9990, 7226.9919 and 7226.9999.
