Van Merksteijn to build wire rod plant

Netherlands-based wire producer Van Merksteijn International recently announced that it has signed an agreement with Port of Eemshaven (North Groningen) for land acquisition for the construction of a new steel plant to produce its own wire rod.

According to media reports, Van Merksteijn has started preparations for the construction of the new plant which is scheduled to be operational in 2020 with an investment of approximately €250 million. The new wire rod plant is expected to create 275 direct jobs.

The company currently has to buy wire rod, its raw material, from external sources.
