Brazilian miner and iron ore producer Vale said it got an installing license to resume activities at its expanded Serra Leste mine in the city of Curionópolis, in the northern Brazilian state of Pará.

Vale said the mine halted operations in January 2019 after reaching its limit for extracting iron ore in the licensed area.

Vale said that with the installing license for an expanded mine, it will resume iron ore output in December.

The Serra Leste mine has a 6 million mt/year iron ore capacity, Vale said.

The miner said it expects the mine to produce between 4 to 5 million mt/year of the commodity in 2021 and should reach full capacity in 2022.

The expansion project will increase capacity to 10 million mt/year and is expected for H1 2023.
