Usiminas initiates renovation of blast furnace
According to latest market reports, Brazilian flats producer Usiminas has initiated to renovate its No. 2 blast furnace which will be completed by the end of the year. The last renovation of the No. 2 blast furnace was done in 1984, when its daily production capacity of pig iron was increased to 2'200 tons. The company is not planning to increase the blast furnace's capacity this time, but will replace mechanical, electrical and controlling equipment. This renovation will cost $40 million. Usiminas Mecanica, Alstom Brazil, Voest Alpine, Paul Wurt and Ibare Likstrom are the main suppliers.
