US weekly raw steel production, week ending June 19

On Monday, June 21, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that for the week ending June 19, 2010, US domestic raw steel production was 1,808,000 net tons with a capability utilization rate was 74.8 percent.  This indicates a 61 percent year-on-year increase from the same period in 2009, where production was 1,123,000 tons while the capability utilization then was 46.9 percent.

Production for the week ending June 19, 2010 is 0.3 percent higher from the previous week when production was 1,803,000 tons and the rate of capability utilization was 74.6 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through June 19, 2010 was 41,359,000 tons, at a capability utilization rate of 70.4 percent. That is a 66.2 percent increase from the 24,887,000 tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 43.2 percent.

Broken down by districts, the production for the week ending June 19, 2010 in thousands of net tons is as follows: Northeast Coast: 114; Pittsburgh/Youngstown: 125; Lake Erie: 42; Detroit: 116; Indiana/Chicago: 459; Midwest: 241; Southern: 630 and Western: 81.
